Germinating [a poem]

The well has run dry –
or so it seems.
Life has been wordless
in this season.

Never a place one wants to be
especially alone
my lifeline confined to the parking lot
in a hurry they weigh me
no time to remove shoes
extra layers glasses ring watch
annoyed, my weight will be inflated
I am wheeled to a small sterile room
dominated by a single bed
intimidating medical charts are
thumb tacked in random order to lime green walls
I eagerly respond to you so I can lie down

It’s a misty dawn, the ocean and sky merging together as one in the distance, behind the ethereal golden glow of the rising sun. I’m in my hammock sipping coffee and flicking through an old journal I bought at the end of March last year, when I was settling in for “lockdown” in Costa Rica. Back then I thought I’d be flying to London in late April, when the borders were originally forecast to reopen.
Now, I’m still here and contemplating putting every penny I own into purchasing land. It’s just raw land: no structures on it. I’m not quite sure how I’ll make the purchase happen, let alone the project I envisage, and how I’ll have money for basic sustenance when I’m done. But I feel a pull, deep inside me. A voice is telling me that I have to make this happen.

Love makes hate laugh,
Says, “Don’t take yourself so seriously.”
Love kisses fear on the lips,
Says, “I’ll take care of you.”
Don’t take yourself so seriously.
We all bleed the same vermillion.
I’ll take care of you
Because you are me.

What is this
That tests my hopes so…
What is this colour in the sky
That repels and is so loud…
What is the rush in the waves
That seems to devour every shore…
What is this…this roar
That silently lurks in every corner…

Falling on my roof, a very old friend
I listen in a warm bed, comforted
A steady patter reassuring to me
life will continue no matter what else,
serving all needs its faithful endeavor
nurturing, refreshing, renewal forever.

In my scared nest I lay
Like a bird, unsure of what to do
To give in or not
To give all or withhold.
In my dazed state I stared
Stroking my hair in search of solution
Licking my sores in solitude
Striving for that peace of mind I crave.
