Children’s Heart Project ❤️

Dear friends,

Over the next month, Pendants for a Cause will be focusing its proceeds on Children’s Heart Project, an initiative to help children with cardiac issues obtain life-saving heart operations.

A Physician, a Burden…an Idea

The Birth of Pendants for a Cause

Pendants for a Cause started a little over a week ago from nothing more than a small piece of sea glass and a hope to help another. When news had hit of the devastating impact of Hurricane Dorian on the communities in the Bahamas–of the lack of healthcare facilities and the need for resources and medical aid–my first thought was not to create necklaces. But despite my formal training as a physician, I felt that there was little that I could do to help all those I wanted to help.

So what else did I have that could possibly make a difference?

Dear Friends,

Happy Saturday! If you haven’t yet, please check out the PendantsForACause necklaces to see if any of my sea glass creations appeals to you.

Being Empowered ….. for a Healthy Heart

A blogger whom I admire who has gone through much in life. Thank you for your friendship and for the lovely book review, Don!

My2ndHeartBeat

Being Empowered

I had a heart transplant about 11-1/2 years ago. I was thrust into the world of medicine and health with no notice. Through my journey, I’ve learned a LOT about heart health …….. through not only my transplant team of great doctors, nurses, nutritionists, dietitians and clinicians, but also by reading and investigating a lot of books, articles and studies.

Recently I learned of a new book written By Dr. Phoebe Chi, “Being Empowered …. for a Healthy Heart”.

This is a well written book that not only covers the topics of healthy eating and exercise, but she also adds some poetry, beautiful photographs and some sections that I don’t get talked about as much as they should, but make a ton of sense. The areas of relaxation, stress relief, sleep/insomnia, intimacy and staying motivated are very important parts of a good heart healthy program. These areas are often somewhat…

Perspectives on Dr. Chi’s book, Being Empowered

A thoughtful review by Richard Mabey on Being Empowered for a Healthy Heart. Thank you, Richard, for your support!

Journey to Truth

Perspectives on Dr. Chi’s book, Being Empowered

By Richard Mabey Jr.

I totally enjoyed reading Dr. Phoebe Chi’s book, Being Empowered …for a Healthy Heart. It is such a good read and I learned a lot from this book. It is a very well organized book and chock full of useful information, for one to maintain good health. This book is a must have and a must read for anyone interested in attaining maximum health.

As a chiropractor, I was very impressed with Dr. Chi’s chapter on back exercises. What I like so much about this chapter is that Dr. Chi writes to communicate with the reader, not to impress the reader. There is a kind of unique conversational tone in Dr. Chi’s writing style. Which is rather rare in self improvement books in the field of personal health.

The graphics and illustrations in Dr. Chi’s book are outstanding. Returning…

What Readers Are Saying

“We are bombarded with daily stresses! This book helps us to decompress and focus on self-care, spirit, body and soul to reach our goals and purpose in life.” – Margaret S., Heart Failure Patient

“Dr. Chi’s book is truly a breath of fresh air. Every chapter is full of detailed but easily understood information about a variety of chronic health issues. It’s like sitting down with your personal physician but being able to understand everything rather than having to ask a lot of questions about things you just don’t “get”. The added blessing of inspiring and pertinent poetry by Dr. Chi makes this book more “personal”. An imminently “readable” book and one that I will be returning to frequently. Be inspired to care about your heart – as much as Dr. Chi does!” – Pam K.

“This is a well written book that not only covers the topics of healthy eating and exercise, but she also adds some poetry, beautiful photographs, and some sections that don’t get talked about as much as they should, but make a ton of sense. The areas of relaxation, stress relief, sleep/insomnia, intimacy and staying motivated are very important parts of a good heart healthy program. These areas are often somewhat neglected. Overall, a fabulous book, an easy read, and great for reference.” – Don P., Heart Transplant Patient

“This book is a must have and a must read for anyone interested in attaining maximum health. As a chiropractor, I was very impressed with Dr. Chi’s chapter on back exercises. What I like so much about this chapter is that Dr. Chi writes to communicate with the reader, not to impress the reader. There is a kind of unique conversational tone in Dr. Chi’s writing style. The graphics and illustrations in Dr. Chi’s book are outstanding. As an additional treat, Dr. Chi provides the reader with a scattering of poems, that she has penned, throughout the book. These poems are uplifting and inspiring. They add a touch of class to the book. This book is 343 pages long. So bang for buck, it’s quite a bargain! This is a must read for anyone interested in having a healthy heart!” – Richard M., Chiropractor

Let Us Not Live in Vain.

Dear friends,

As we start a new week, I would like to encourage you with some of my favorite words from Emily Dickinson:

If I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain;
If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.

Wishing everyone out there a wonderful and blessed week.

With love,
Phoebe

Just a Simple Hello 💙

Good afternoon friends!

Today, I just wanted to say hello…and to tell you all that I think you are amazingly wonderful. Why? Because each of you are so talented, unique, and beautiful in your own ways…and on top of that….you are definitely the coolest group of bloggers in the blogosphere.

With that said, I will leave you with a well-known but still one of my favorite Helen Keller quotes…

“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched—
they must be felt with the heart.”

With love,
Phoebe 😊

Do You Know You Are Wonderful?

Lately, I’ve been telling an old friend of mine how wonderful the WordPress community is (at least the little snippet of it that I know). I’m always amazed at how a community of people who have never met, and are so different, can be so kind and supportive of one another. Because of that, I really wanted her to ‘meet’ you guys, since she very recently started blogging and wants to connect with others. Aside from giving her blogging tips, I specifically wanted to connect her with those of you that I already know, because, simply put, you guys really warm my heart (and secretly, I feel that you all are the coolest bloggers on wordpress!) So that is the purpose of this post.

Let Us Care For One Another…

Dear friends,

May I tell you about someone? It’s about one courageous woman who has a beautiful heart who just happens to have a brain tumor. She has undergone surgery and a long bout of chemoradiation, and although she has fought hard and continues to fight to maintain the kind of ‘normal life’ someone as lucky as me would take for granted, she was forced to reach out.

Puppydoc on…YouTube?

One may have noticed something peculiar about Puppydoc’s posts this past week…in that they contained videos of her.

It is true: Puppydoc has decided to start showing her puppy face to those in her world who would want to see it.

As for Samantha, she has yet to hop on board (she feels she needs to lose some fluff before she is presentable for the camera), but I’m trying to convince her that she is beautiful no matter the degree of rotundity.

So if the idea of watching Puppydoc entices you, come on over for a visit!

With that said, I hope you enjoyed the photo of the meditating lemur.

Confessions

I am flawed. Those who have read some of my earlier scribbles have seen the somewhat self-critical lens through which I view myself. Despite this, a new year is just upon us, which, like every new day, offers a chance for us to adjust whatever it is we feel we need to adjust…whether it is our daily habits or our perspective on life.

Therefore, Puppydoc would like to share with you a few things about herself by presenting her three big goals for the New Year:

♥ To LIVE more.

Prioritizing her professional and academic endeavors over the past decade has somewhat come at a price for Puppydoc, who feels that she has missed out on life in general as well as many of the people in it. Therefore, she would like to do things differently this year by more fully treasuring what she already has…her dear family and friends…and by putting them first.

To LAUGH more.

Medicine, while it has given her many precious memories, has formed in her a sort of a somber outlook on life, where all she sees is suffering around her. Coupled with an impression that she is rather powerless to really make a difference, she ends up bearing a lingering guilt for not being able to do more for others. For this, Puppydoc will take a dose of what has traditionally been considered the best medicine–laughter–and just try to loosen up a bit.

 To LOVE more.

For most of her life, Puppydoc has guarded her heart closely, almost afraid to feel…experience…embrace that nebulous realm called love. Fearing vulnerability, she has attached herself to the position of caregiver in both her professional and personal life, always caring for others while within remained a daydreaming girl aching to be cared for. But now is the time for her to start taking down the walls surrounding her. And who knows what may happen…

•

Thank you, dear Liz, for prompting me to think about my goals and to write this post. You are an inspiration to all!

Wishing everyone a lovely week and a wonderful start to the New Year.

Love,
Puppydoc

A PuppyDoc’s Return.

To that hiatus sweet,
she bids farewell
to rise to her feet
and don her white tail.

For truly did she miss each one of you,
C-dog, Amity…ol’ Noodle too.
Randoms by a Random, WritersDream,
OneSpoiledBacon— uh…Cat, I mean!

To all others I have failed to name,
forgive me, for I am truly to blame.
As I am merely, sadly, only a doc–
a doc who can’t rhyme but thinks she’s a pup.
Pup. Cup. Rupp. Knupp.

Oh dear, now I’ve run amok.

What I meant to say, but failed to do, is…

Happy Holidays to all of you!

Hello, November!

Dear Diary,

Today has brought with it a brand new day, along with its graying skies and chilled dew. As I sit here, the beginnings of a particular Shakespearean sonnet come to mind…

“That time of year thou mayst in me behold
When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang
Upon those boughs which shake against the cold,
Bare ruin’d choirs, where late the sweet birds sang…”

Take care everyone.

Love,
Phoebe and Samantha
