The Time Is Now [a poem]
By Carmen McKnight | Featured Contributor
The time of day to live not stray
is now.
The time of night to love not to fight
is now.
The time to open up your heart
is now.
The time to cry those tears of joy
is now.

Dear Friends—Happy September! This week, I again open up PhoebeMD.com for another Meet & Greet event. I originally started this on PhoebeMD: Medicine + Poetry as a dedicated time for bloggers to come together to share their work, make new connections, and expand their blog audiences. In short: a chance to promote yourself and your blogs. This is your time to shine!
The guidelines are simple (but please follow them):

Each day is a great beginning,
To celebrate your life anew.
Boundless chances are waiting,
Make your dreams come true!
As the sun gently shows its beauty,
Start your day with a positive mind.
Let those uncertainties vanish freely,
Just get ready for the new day grind.

You aren’t in the frames
But you’re the one behind the lens
Not always at the starting gate
But cheering at the end
Your step-kids cannot see at first
You’re here for their own good
They only see you in the spot
Where once their mother stood

In the midst of nowhere you arose,
Like a thief in the soundless night.
Unlocked entrances are now closed.
The world is enveloped with fright.
Your poison lingers everywhere.
Waiting for a susceptible target.
Both old and young hide in scare.
No one can escape your threat.

Author’s Note: This is a poem dedicated to my eldest daughter, Jamie. She is an inspiration to me.
* * *
She was beautiful, perfect, the first to call me momma,
the one with sweet demeanor, the one without the drama,
left me in awe when she spoke her first words,
absolutely overwhelmed me when first steps occurred,
Kissed my tears away
when disappointment ruled the day,
I dressed her in pretty dresses and socks with ruffled trim,
brushed her long brown hair and taught her how to swim.

Love makes hate laugh,
Says, “Don’t take yourself so seriously.”
Love kisses fear on the lips,
Says, “I’ll take care of you.”
Don’t take yourself so seriously.
We all bleed the same vermillion.
I’ll take care of you
Because you are me.
