When a smile,
portrayed as guise of fire,
rusts as your presence departs…
When a caress,
lingered with twilight glow,
is but a shadow trailing
scarlet threads…
When a love, unreturned,
plays master calloused
to a fading hope…
Set a seal upon shallow heart,
you whom my soul desires,
and let me be released.

You’re welcome phoebe!
You really have a way with words.. Amazing imagery.. <3
This is another great poem. Whenever I see the word “unrequited”, it makes me think back to my first real love. That was one amazingly tough time. Beautiful words by you.
Thank you, David. 🙂
Very, very nice! Sweetly expressed emotion.
I really like: portrayed as guise of fire

OH NO, the link is broken or the page is missing. Is that Elizabeth Barrett Browning? We didn’t get to read to the end.

Of course, this is beautiful. But because I can relate so deeply, it makes me sad too. You are always awesome ! Thanks for sharing even the hard ones. :-p
Thank you for your kind words! 🙂
That portrays that sense of loneliness so well…love not returned is infatuation and that leads to heartache all too frequently.
Hugs, Pam
Indeed that is true. Hugs! 🙂
Well said Phoebe!
